Buckshutem Road School students can look forward to a setting where they are surrounded by a dynamic, active, and quality learning environment. Here at Buckhutem Road School, students are challenged to critically think, write and problem solve in lessons and experiences which will ensure their success in High School and beyond. Our staff addresses the intellectual, emotional, and social well-being of students in grades K through 8 as well as equips children with the toold and skills to compete and excel in a challenging global environment.
As part of the regular curricula which are aligned with the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards, we work tirelessly to provide activities and lessons which will engage all students. Extra help is provided for at-risk students through our after school program which will address skills which may need to be remediated. We also provide our advanced students with Gifted and Talented classes (GEMS). Additional school activities include Hudson Banking Program, Reading Buddies, Safety Patrol, Dr. Seuss Day, Career Day, Community Service Projects, 24-Game Tournament, Theater experiences, Multicultural Assemblies, Spring/Winter Concert, Elementary Basketball League, the National Honor Soceity, Technology Wizards, Family Game Night, Student of the Month, Honor Roll Presentations, Kite Day, and a student Talent Show.
Students in Grades K-5 utilize the StoryTown curriculum while students in grades 6-8 utilize the McGraw Hill Reading Series for Language Arts Literacy and SRA/McGraw Hill Everyday Math Series for students in grades K-6. Studentsin Grades 7 and 8 are taught Pre Algebra and Algebra I. The StoryTown and McGraw Hill language arts literacy curriculums and the Everyday Math/Algebra curriculum, coupled with excellent instructional practices, high expectations for all students, rigorous assessments, and differentiated learning activites has enabled students to become prepared learners where all students are valued and held to high academic standards.
Parents Are Welcome
We have a School Leadership Council (SLC) team that is an instrumental and vital part of our school due to the believe that the SLC is an essential and imperative as it involves parents and all key stakeholders in the educational process. The SLC members are comprised of teachers, parents, support staff, community members and the building administrators. Our school considers the SLC an asset and a vital tool to ensure that our students are given the very best our school has to offer.
