Athletic Trainer

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. College degree with core/section requirements fulfilled
  2. NATA Certification including First Aid Certification or EMT equivalent, Basic CPR Certification, completion of NATABOC Exam and application and completion of Clinical Supervision hours
  3. Meet all State Licensure Requirements

REPORTS TO:

The Athletic Trainer is directly responsible to the Building Principal and Athletic Directors

JOB GOAL:

To prevent, recognize, evaluate, manage, treat and rehabilitate injuries; to organize and administer the training program; and to education and counsel staff and students

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. The full-time Athletic Trainer at Bridgeton High School will adhere to the school calendar as that of each staff member.
  2. The contractual time of the Athletic Trainer will be 10:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. In addition, the Athletic Trainer will be on site for all home athletic events and will travel with Varsity Football.
  3. The responsibilities and duties of the Athletic Trainer are to diagnose injuries to student athletes, administer first aid, provide rehabilitation and referrals to the school nurse and school physician.
  4. The Athletic Trainer will keep a daily log as to any treatment or rehabilitation performed on each student athlete. Copies of this log will be submitted to the Athletic Director and school nurse each month.
  5. The Athletic Trainer will be responsible for all medical equipment and medical supplies purchased by the Board of Education.
  6. The Athletic Trainer will be responsible for preparing a budget and submitting purchase orders to the Athletic Director at the end of each school year.
  7. The Athletic Trainer will provide rehabilitation to student athletes only during lunch periods, study halls or Physical Education classes, but not during Physical Education Health classes. Passes will be issued to the appropriate staff members.
  8. Only the Athletic Trainer has the authority to reinstate an athlete on the playing field following an injury.
  9. The Athletic Trainer has the responsibility to have the necessary first aid supplies, i.e. water, ice, etc., ready for each coach prior to the start of a game or an away bus trip.
  10. The Athletic Trainer will maintain his/her NATA certification and attend any conferences or clinics that will be needed for updated medical information and certifications.
  11. All vacation must have prior approval by Superintendent.
  12. Vacation cannot be taken during the month of August.
  13. The Athletic Trainer will perform all other duties as required by the Superintendent, Building Principal and Athletic Directors.

12 months

EVALUATION:

Job performance will be evaluated in accordance with Board policy.
