POSITION:

District Student in Transition Coordinator

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status;
  2. Bachelor’s degree;
  3. Experience working with displaced youth and families; and
  4. Knowledge of social services networking.

REPORTS TO:

Director of Student Services

JOB GOAL:

Maintain the educational continuity of students in transition and displaced youth.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Monitor, evaluate, and determine the needs of students in transition and displaced youth;
  2. Establish district of residence for students in transition and displaced youth;
  3. Work with sending and receiving districts regarding the educational continuity and placement of students in transition and displaced youth;
  4. Work with transportation to coordinate busing for students in transition and displaced youth;
  5. Complete NJ DOE Student in Transition Verification Report and submit to supervisor and Board Secretary as needed;
  6. Complete NJ DOE / NJ HHS Annual Homeless Children and Youth survey;
  7. Attend meetings (County and State) regarding the education of students in transition and displaced youth;
  8. Provide in-service and professional development trainings for staff, youth, and families as directed by the Director of Student Services;
  9. Develop, organize, and run local events to educate youth and families on areas related to homelessness, organization, education, and stability;
  10. Work with DCPP to ensure the educational stability of students in foster care;
  11. Coordinate and maintain communication with students in transition and displaced youth according to the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act;
  12. Submit the End-of-Year Application for State Responsible Homeless Tuition Reimbursement;
  13. Work with Attendance Officers to monitor the attendance of students in transition and displaced youth; and
  14. Perform such other duties as required by the Director of Student Services.

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT:

Twelve (12) Months. Salary to be determined by the Board of Education.

EVALUATION:

Performance will be evaluated in accordance with Board Policies and procedures on the evaluation of professional staff.
