POSITION:

Farm to School Coordinator

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  2. Knowledge of the regulations of the National School Lunch Program, National School Breakfast Program, After School Snack Program, Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program, the Dinner Program, and the Summer Feeding Program.
  3. Have and maintain Serve Safe Certification.
  4. Computer literate, experience with MS Word, Excel, Google apps, Outlook, and social media outlets.
  5. Ability to carry out directions and to learn quickly.
  6. Self-motivated, work well independently and possess high degree of management skills.
  7. Creativity and problem-solving skills.
  8. Ability to work harmoniously in a team environment.
  9. Ability to prioritize tasks and manage workload in a dynamic and fast-paced setting.
  10. Experience working with Farm to School programs, school gardens, classroom curriculum, and/or the local food system.
  11. Knowledge of, or familiarity with, key State/Regional Farm to School partners, such as New Jersey Department of Agriculture, the Common Market, Seashore Fruit & Produce, Mill Creek Farms, Zone 7, etc.
  12. Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S Citizenship or legal resident alien status.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Lead or assist in teaching Farm to School or gardening to after school clubs in the district.
  2. Ensure monthly, content-related materials are updated on the bulletin boards in each school’s cafeteria with supporting educational activities led in the cafeteria or classrooms.
  3. Conducts taste test during lunch periods to provide learning opportunities.
  4. Maintain, nurture, and glean school gardens and greenhouses with students and staff assistance while managing physical resources such as seeds, plants, tools, etc.
  5. Develop and maintain school gardens supporting the high school and elementary teachers when appropriate.
  6. Maintain relationships with local farms for profiles, field trips, and procurement opportunities.
  7. Communicate with food companies concerning regarding ingredients and ordering.
  8. Collaborate with the Wellness Committee to provide updates on Farm to School, local food procurement and use.
  9. Promote and publicize the Bridgeton Food Services Department through social media, the school website, email, and with articles in the Scoop newsletter.
  10. Evaluate program monthly, quarterly and annually to track data of gleaned produce.
  11. Manage a mentor/volunteer program for both the schools and community gardens (FoodCorps Service Member recruitment, training and support).

Job performance will be evaluated in accordance with Board policy.
