POSITION:

SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS

Appointment

The Board of Education shall employ a legally qualified Superintendent of Schools to perform all administrative and supervisory functions required by State Law, by the rules and regulations of the State Board of Education and by the Bridgeton Board of Education.

Meetings of the Board of Education

The Superintendent of Schools shall attend Board meetings and assist in its deliberations, speak on educational matters, but does not have the right to vote.

Duties:

The Superintendent of Schools

  1. Shall be the chief administrative officer of the Board of Education with authority to manage and direct the affairs of the school system under the policies, rules and regulations established by the Board of Education. He may delegate any of his responsibilities.
  2. Shall act as a representative of the Board of Education in dealing with Bridgeton school employees. State and County Educational Officers, and Officials of other school systems.
  3. Shall be responsible for the general supervision of the instructional program.
  4. Shall be responsible for the selection of all instructional and non-instructional personnel and recommend them for employment by the Board.
  5. Shall recommend for suspension or discharge any employee whose services are unsatisfactory,
  6. Shall confer with Board Secretary on preparation of school budget.
  7. Shall be responsible for the keeping of school records required by law, and the preparation of reports required by law on the education of pupils.
  8. Shall recommend policies for Board consideration.
  9. Shall work in close harmony with the boards of education of the sending districts to attain close articulation between grade schools and high school, and to assure the fullest understanding and cooperation of all concerned.
  10. Shall keep the Board informed of pending legislation affecting the schools,
  11. Shall attend professional meetings, conferences and conventions where his presence can be of benefit to the school system.
  12. Shall, with the staff, provide a continuous appraisal of the course of study and curriculum offered in the school district.
  13. Shall select and recommend for adoption all textbooks, educational equipment and supplementary instructional materials.
  14. Shall prepare an annual report for the Board of Education on the progress of the school system.
