POSITION:

Assistant Transportation Coordinator

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High School Diploma (some college desired).
  2. Five years experience in transportation operations.
  3. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and adhere to prescribed procedures.
  4. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the general public.
  5. Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status.

REPORTS TO:

School Business Administrator and Transportation Coordinator.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the direction of the School Business Administrator and the Transportation Coordinator, assists in the proper operation, maintenance, scheduling of buses and supervision of bus drivers; does related work as required. In the absence of the Transportation Coordinator, directs the operation of the Transportation Department.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Processes and organizes all bid packages regarding transportation. Sends all final projects to Purchasing to be put out for bid.
  2. Handles all bus reservation forms for the school district using school buses. Handles receiving and approving bus reservation forms for the use of district buses.
  3. Handles all bus reservation forms for the school district for all coach buses. Sends out quotes to three bus companies and return to schools for approval.
  4. Handles all bus reservation forms for the school district using outside contractor's school buses when district buses are not available. Contacts school with quotes from bus companies as the department receives them.
  5. Assists teachers, other school personnel, or bus companies with questions or concerns with field trips.
  6. Instructs all new drivers of office procedures, bus rules, field trips, copy of bus manual, and any other pertinent information they may need.
  7. Schedules, attends and assists with all required OSHA training for transportation staff.
  8. Schedules, attends and assists with all monthly mandatory safety meetings. Keeps monthly report of each safety meeting with information regarding the meeting and sign-in sheets.
  9. Becomes part of the Affirmative Action Committee and attends all Affirmative Action meetings.
  10. Maintains and updates the Transportation Program, Versatrans, and implements updates with the Technology Department. Maintains and updates the Versatrans Trip Tracker wit field trips, cancellations, reschedules, time changes and other information to keep the system up-to-date. Implement updates with the Technology Department as needed.
  11. Assists when needed as a bus aide if substitutes are unavailable.
  12. Assists in the opening of school with bus passes, sorting mail, sealing and stuffing envelopes, and with delivery of bus passes to the post office with bulk mail information completed.
  13. Handles all purchase orders and requisitions for the Transportation Office.
  14. Handles all mechanic invoices and quarterly reports. Processes all invoices and keeps up-to-date files on all buses that are active.
  15. Assist in coverage of drivers and sends information to schools when substitutes are unavailable and routes need to be doubled.
  16. Informs new bus drivers of the schedule for drug screening for all pre- employment testing and the location. For all full-time bus drivers, keeps the schedule of quarterly drug testing record. The testing location is at the Annex Building. A list of bus drivers will be given the day before the drug test is due. Informs bus drivers on the morning of the drug test.
  17. Establishes, maintains and backs up all files for the computer and paper files for the Transportation Office.
  18. Assists with coordination, building and maintaining routes for the students that attend Bridgeton Public Schools, and maintains constant contact with schools.
  19. Assists with coordination, building and maintaining routes for special education students that attend schools outside the district, and maintains contact with schools.
  20. Assists with coordination, building and maintaining routes for special education students that attend non-public schools, and maintains contact with schools.
  21. Coordinates all after-school routes and assigns drivers accordingly. Deals with concerns from bus drivers, teachers, and students in the after-school programs.
  22. Assists in the DRTRS, State of New Jersey District Reported Transportation Report, for all students with live in the district, as of the 15th of October of the current school year.
  23. Assists the Transportation Coordinator as needed and, in the absence of the Transportation Coordinator, maintains responsibilities of the position.
  24. Assists with attendance records of all bus drivers and bus aides.
  25. Assists with transportation budget along with appropriate documentation.
  26. Schedules bus driver substitutes as needed.
  27. Performs all other duties as required by the School Business Administrator and Transportation Coordinator.

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT:

12 Months. Salary to be determined by the Board of Education.

EVALUATION:

Performance will be evaluated in accordance with Board policies and procedures on the evaluation of professional staff.
