POSITION:

Educational Media Specialist

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. As determined by New Jersey state certification requirements and the Bridgeton Board of Education
  2. Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status.

REPORTS TO:

Building principal and/or other appropriately certificated superior as designated by the Superintendent

JOB GOAL:

The educational Media Specialist works with students and faculty to assess and meet their needs. The educations media specialist develops program to stimulate interest in the use of print and non-print materials and equipment, plans and carries out programs of instruction, and works with staff and student to provide materials for classroom, research and leisure use.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Evaluates, selects and requisitions media materials and equipment.
  2. Prepares and administers budget for media center.
  3. Maintains an inventory of materials and equipment.
  4. Assist students and teachers with research and reference work individually and whole class instruction.
  5. Instructs pupils and faculty in the skills in the media curriculum such as the use of media and related audiovisual equipment as called upon.
  6. Maintains records consistent with the instructional program.
  7. Instructs pupils and supervises support staff, staff assistants and student assistants.
  8. Is responsible for maintaining appropriate conduct of students using media facilities.
  9. Works cooperatively with reginal, county and local media resources.
  10. Organizes and supervises the circulation of media materials.
  11. Participates in curriculum study and revision.
  12. Works with faculty to provide and maintain organized materials and equipment for classroom instruction.
  13. Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
  14. Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.
  15. Assists in the supervisions of students as the need arises as directed by the school administrator.
  16. Monitor and coordinates use of the technological facilities available in the media center.
  17. Organizes and supervises care and circulation of materials and equipment in such a way as to maximize usage.
  18. Prepares monthly and annual reports.
  19. Maintains all library book, catalogues, supplies and material in approved up-to-date form.
  20. Evaluates library programs and aligns with district curriculum.
  21. Establishes and maintains accurate and up-to-date computer data records.
  22. Supports district policy.
  23. Assist in the implementation and coordinator of new programs within all disciplines.
  24. Coordinates the library program and services with total curricular offerings.
  25. Maintains required planbook, record book and schedules.
  26. Participates in meetings, activities and workshops sponsored by professional associations.
  27. Serves as a resource person for the recommendation and distribution of instructional materials to teachers.
  28. Promotes and interprets the library program for users.
  29. Provides appropriate bulletin boards for users.
  30. ls responsible for the care of physical plant and media equipment and furniture.
  31. Shall perform other related duties as assigned.

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT:

10 Months. Salary to be determined by the Board of Education.

EVALUATION:

Performance is to be evaluated in accordance with Board police and procedures on the evaluation of professional staff.
