POSITION:

Teacher of the Handicapped

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. As required by New Jersey stat certification requirements and the Bridgeton Board of Education.
  2. Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status.

REPORTS TO:

Building principal and/or other appropriately certificated supervisor as designated by the Superintendent

JOB GOAL:

The Teacher of the Handicapped shall instruct classified student according to individualized educational plans and carry out other assigned responsibilities as delegated by administrative and Board of Education policy.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Plans and teachers a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students, and gives evidence of student growth.
  2. Creates a classroom environment that is safe, conducive to learning, and appropriate to the maturity and interest of students.
  3. Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and, in harmony with the goals, establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and the like, to communicate these objectives to students.
  4. Employs instructional methods and material that are most appropriate for meeting stated objectives.
  5. Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.
  6. Seeks the assistance of district specialists to help identify students having problem in the classroom.
  7. Councils and communicates with administrators, colleagues, students, and parents as needed.
  8. Assists the administration in implementing all policies, procedures, and/or rules governing staff and student life and conduct. In the classroom, develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior, and maintains order in affair and just manner.
  9. Develops purposeful assignments for para-professionals and/or volunteer(s).
  10. Strives to maintains and improve professional competence.
  11. Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as requested.
  12. Assists in the supervision of students as the need arises, both in the school building and on the school ground as directed by the school administrator.
  13. Participates in the development of the individualized educational plans for classified students.
  14. Implements individualized educational plans for classified students.
  15. Works cooperatively with the regular education teachers in program implementation.
  16. Communicates with appropriate school personnel in order to monitor the mainstreaming of classified students into regular classes.
  17. Shall perform other related duties as assigned.

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT:

1O Months. Salary to be determined by the Board of Education.

EVALUATION:

Performance to be evaluated in accordance to Board polices and procedures on the evaluation of professional staff.
