Job Description
Preschool Intervention and Referral Specialist

Position:

School Psychologist

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s preferred
  2. Valid NJ School Psychologist certification
  3. Strong background and knowledge in early childhood education and development.
  4. Required criminal history background check and proof of US citizenship or legal alien resident status.

Reports to:

Supervisor of PK-2 and Building Principals

Performance Responsibilities:

  1. Provide in class support to identified children to help reduce behaviors that prohibit children from successfully participating in a regular preschool setting.
  2. Apply strategies with all children to avoid making unwarranted referrals for special education
  3. Provide intervention directly in the classroom and during the child’s typical daily activities including snack time.
  4. Integrate strategies for reaching children's IEP objectives into each child initiated and teacher planned activity.
  5. Consult with preschool intervention referral specialists team members and classroom teachers in planning strategies, adopting teaching practices and making modifications that will assist the children in meeting the goals of the district and the Preschool Teaching and Learning Expectations: Standards of Quality.
  6. Assist teachers and preschool instructional coach with strategies for involving and educating families.
  7. Assess each identified child's progress within the context of the natural classroom environment using appropriate assessments. Share results with teachers, parents, and other relevant parties.
  8. Invite all children in the classroom to be participants when administering therapies to identified children.
  9. Model for the teacher and use the teachers' suggestions and lesson plans to help make the childs-program part of the total classroom routine.
  10. Submit weekly schedules and lesson plans to the administrator in charge.
  11. Attend any and all meetings and/or conferences as directed by the administrative staff.
  12. Provide staff development- to staff as requested.
  13. Perform other related duties as may be assigned by the Supervisor of PK-2 and Building Principals.

Job performance will be evaluated in accordance with Board of Education Policy.
