POSITION:

Visual Arts Teacher

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Valid New Jersey Instructional Certificate in required subject area.
  2. Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status.

REPORTS TO:

Building principal and district supervisor of Visual and Performing Arts or other appropriately certificated superior as designated by the Superintendent.

JOB GOAL:

To provide an approved educational program in accordance with the New Jersey Sate Learning Standards for the Visual Arts and establish a supportive and positive environment that fosters critical thinking, creativity, innovation, self-expression and personal growth, while developing in each pupil an appreciation of the arts in relation to societal, cultural and historical contexts.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Works to achieve student learning standards and district educational goals and objectives including the goals of the district Strategic Plan for the Arts, by promoting active learning and skills development in the classroom.
  2. Teachers pupils through an approved course of study using Board­adopted curricula, textbooks, and other appropriate teaching materials.
  3. Demonstrates a knowledge, understanding and application of subject matter.
  4. Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil. Submits the plans for review on a weekly basis.
  5. Sets student-centered learning objective in lesson preparation and weekly lesson plans and carries through presentation to effectively achieve these objectives.
  6. Assess pupil academic progress and personal growth toward stated objectives of instruction, including individual educational programs as needed.
  7. Maintains records of pupil's educational progress in class record books and/or Board approved forms and summarizes these marks for reporting purposes.
  8. Identifies pupil needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and resolving learning problems.
  9. Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a classroom climate conducive to learning.
  10. Budgets class time effectively.
  11. Communicates with parents through conference and other means to inform them about the school program and discuss pupil progress.
  12. Promotes the school program and provides presentation opportunities through the display of student art exhibits for the school and community.
  13. Works collaboratively with non-arts teachers to integrate the arts across disciplines.
  14. Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities as assigned.
  15. Maintain professional competence and continuous improvement through in-service education activities and other professional growth activities.
  16. Participates in school-level and Visual and Performing Arts Department planning, faculty meeting/committees and other school system groups.
  17. Advocates for the Arts in the school and community and makes effective use of community resources to enhance the instructional program.
  18. Upholds and enforces school rules, administrative regulations and board policy.
  19. Maintains a high standard of ethical professional conduct when dealing with associates, parents, students and other members of the community.
  20. Performs other duties as assigned by the Building Principal and/or designee which shall fall within the scope of his/her employment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Employee must be able to see documents clearly, communicate effectively, sit and/or sand for long periods of time and occasional e able to lift up to 10lbs.

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT:

10 Months. Salary to be determined by the Board of Education.

EVALUATION:

Performance will be evaluated in accordance wit Board policies and procedures on the evaluation of Professional staff.
