The Health & Wellness Committee develops, implements, monitors, and reviews the district's menus, nutrition, and physical activity policies. Meetings are held five times a year, and all community and staff members are welcome. The committee's mission is to promote healthful behavior in the school by encouraging its students to consume fresh fruits, vegetables, low-fat milk, and whole grains. As well as encouraging students to select and consume all components of the school meal.
Reasons for the Wellness Policy:
- Children need access to healthful foods and opportunities to be physically active to grow, learn, and thrive
- Good health fosters student attendance and education
- Obesity rates have doubled in children and tripled in adolescents over the last two decades
- Physical inactivity and excessive calorie intake are the predominant causes of obesity
- Heart disease, cancer, stroke, and diabetes are responsible for two-thirds of deaths in the United States
- Unhealthy eating habits, physical inactivity, and obesity often are established in childhood
Students, staff, parents, and community partners can join the Wellness Committee. Please email [email protected] if you are interested in joining the Wellness Committee or would like additional information.
