When I think about my personal values, what I hold dear to my heart I automatically consider the relationships that I have with individuals, whether it be with the teacher I work with, the students and the parents that I serve or even a stranger that I meet and have the opportunity to share a conversation with. Nothing is more personally valuable to me than the relationships I have with others. I believe and trust in people; I believe that this philosophy should be reciprocated by others although it may not always occur, and this is what I struggle with as a leader and as a subordinate which leads me into my operating principles. I believe it is incumbent upon me as a leader, a servant leader to accept individuals as they are without judgment. That I must find strength in each person I encounter and allow them to accept me as I am. I believe that it is my responsibility as a leader to generate commitment from others in our quest to build and mold the students we serve. I believe in operating and leading by commitment rather than compliance, I do this by modeling and behaving and operating in a manner that allows individuals to see that I believe in their ability.
My non negotiable are difficult to ascertain because I find myself to be very flexible, at times to a fault. I feel as though I do not demand much and as I stated I feel as though I can be very tolerant. But in retrospect I do demand a commitment from others. A commitment to the students that we serve, and I’ve found myself to be very intolerable of those that do not share this concept. I want others to have the same expectations that I do of the students that we serve. An expectation of academic and social achievement.
My priorities are easily defined; relationships, people, commitment, and service to others. Once again these listed priorities can also be a detriment to my self preservation. My belief in others, and their willingness or rather their unwillingness to share my priorities at the risk of their own self preservations can be detrimental. I believe it is incumbent upon me (priority) to form meaningful and lasting relationships with the individuals I supervise, the parents and students I serve and to those individuals to whom I am a subordinate.
