Cherry Street School is a dedicated educational learning environment that encourages all of our students to “soar to success.” The Cherry Street School mission is to provide excellent instruction through high expectations with a curriculum that guides students to become successful, confident and productive individuals with a superior education. A culture of excellence is expected by the Cherry Street School learning community. The vision expected of every educator in the Cherry Street School learning community is to educate students as they become independent life-long learners who are confident, competent, contributing members of a diverse and global society.  

Cherry Street School is a K-8 school with approximately 650 students. Our dedicated teaching staff has adopted rigorous school goals intended to enhance school culture and climate, student achievement and staff professional development. We at Cherry Street School fervently believe that all students can achieve. Our teaching staff has been dedicated to working closely in their Professional Learning Communities to review and analyze student achievement data and collaboratively plan effective standards based instruction based upon data findings.

Our school is a Rowan University Professional Development School (PDS). This partnership allows tenured full time teachers to work closely with teacher candidates to develop best practices in instruction. The Rowan University PDS program is also dedicated to assessing the needs of our school professional learning communities and assisting teachers in increasing academic rigor in instruction while maintaining a positive learning culture.

Cherry Street school is working to improve school culture and climate with several school initiatives. Our guidance staff will provide an active Character Education curriculum designed to develop student climate. Our students will be exposed to multiple character education and anti-bullying presentations designed to lower HIB incidents within the school. Our school is renewing Positive Behavior Supports in Schools (PBSIS). Students will have the opportunity to learn the positive expectations of each area within our school environment while being able to earn rewards for positive behavior.

In addition to improvements in climate and academics, we have dedicated some technological enhancements as well. We now have two technology coordinators to provide staff professional development in technology as well as assess and enhance technological instruction throughout the school. We have increased our available student laptops in preparation for technology based assessment and instruction. All of our classrooms have either Smartboard or Bright Link technology added to enhance interactive lessons. We have embarked on a Smart Responder Student Response teaching initiative to provide professional development to teachers in preparing instruction with enhanced student data collection.

Our parents, community members and all stakeholders are vital partners in our students’ success. Parents and community members are invited to participate with our School Leadership Council (SLC) and our Parent Teacher Organization (PTO). We consistently strive to encourage parental involvement at Cherry Street School. Parents are welcomed to attend all of school activities, programs and volunteer opportunities. With the help of all of our stakeholders, Cherry Street Falcons will “Soar to Success.”

District anti-bullying initiative

Bridgeton Public School District takes bullying and harassment very seriously. As part of a NJ initiative to stop bullying, we have selected Dr. Christopher Tavani to serve as our district Anti-Bullying Coordinator. Please contact the program coordinator if you have any concerns about bullying taking place in our district.
