Welcome to the 2016-2017 school year at Indian Avenue School where the motto for all of our Eagles is Soaring to Excellence! This year, our focus is to instill in each one of our children a genuine love for reading. Through our new “Independent Reading Initiative” we will strive to introduce our students to new and exciting worlds and experiences far beyond their wildest imaginations by setting aside a special time for them each day to engage with and enjoy rich literature from various genres and authors. This along with our dedicated faculty and rigorous curriculum will support our goals for this year and is aligned with our mission: To ensure that all of our students are building a strong foundation for lifelong learning that will allow them to become critical thinkers, active problem solvers and productive citizens in society! Our school has three main goals: to increase student reading levels, raise student math quantile scores, and to decrease discipline referrals by recognizing positive behavior. The success of our students relies heavily on the strength and support of school, family and community partnerships. Students benefit when everyone conveys the same positive messages about the importance of education, attending school every day, working hard, and displaying respect toward EVERYONE. We believe that in order to build Eagle Brainpower and Character for Success, every child must be Respectful, Responsible & Safe both in and outside of school. Indian Avenue is a family-friendly school community where our vision is to maintain a highly engaging learning environment where each student feels supported and strives to reach his or her full potential for success. We celebrate the fact that we have a bilingual learning environment, offer a variety of academic focused extended day clubs and activities, and have the continued support of community members who participate in our Community Garden Project. Parents are encouraged to visit the school, get involved in every aspect of the school activities, and join in the decision-making process as members of our Parent Spirit Council and School Leadership Committee (SLC). We look forward to celebrating student accomplishments together at programs and events such as Read Across America Family Night, Pi Night, Student of the Month and Honor Roll ceremonies, Art Shows, Concerts, the Science Fair, and Step Up. We are excited for another successful, fun-filled, student-centered school year at Indian Avenue School.
