What is Title I Part A?
Title I is part of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB). This legislation provides federal funds to help students in schools with high economic needs achieve high standards. The overall objective is to enable all students to meet state and local student performance objectives and for all school schools to achieve the Annual Measurable Objectives targets set by the New Jersey Department of Education.
During the 2015-2016 school year, all schools in the Bridgeton Public Schools District receive Title I funding. As such, the funds are used for afterschool and summer academic programs, family involvement programs, such as Parent University, as well as supplemental instructional materials, professional development and other school-wide and district initiatives.

Highly Qualified Teachers and Paraprofessionals
NCLB of 2001 includes specific requirements related to the qualifications and certifications of teachers and paraprofessionals. All professional staff teaching core academic subjects in Title I schools must meet the highly qualified requirements. Core academic subjects include Reading/ English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies. Paraprofessionals working in Title I schools must also meet the educational requirements under the NCLB Act. NCLB also requires Title I schools to disseminate a letter to all parents regarding the qualifications of their child’s teacher. Our district is proud of its teachers and instructional staff and encourage all parents, guardians and community members to become involved with their school and teacher. Together, we can make a difference!

Parent and Family Involvement
A critical component of the NCLB Title I is parent outreach. All Title I schools are mandated to implement school level family involvement programs through meaningful consultation with parents to provide opportunities to increase their knowledge and skills related to their children’s education. As annual Parent Teacher conferences are mandatory under the grant, Bridgeton Public Schools hold two per year, one during the week of November 16, 2015, with the second being held during the week of April 18, 2016. In between those dates, conferences may occur at other mutually convenient times.
Each school is required to create, with the guidance from parents and community members, and disseminate a School Parent Compact as well as distribute the District and School Parent Involvement Policy which outlines the positive expectations of each partner (School, teachers, and students) which leads to student success. Parents of our district should look forward to workshops and programs throughout the year which focus upon strategies to help their children improve their academic performance as well as how to improve the family as a whole. PARCC data from 2014-2015 will be made available for review to determine student success and areas of improvement.
Each school has a Parent Liaison/Community Parent Involvement Specialist who works directly with parents and the community in order to provide workshops and information pertinent to each school’s goals. As you attend your school events, please also plan to attend the District’s Parent University to learn more about great programs at each school, topics on how to help your child succeed in school, as well as how you can become involved in our academic community!
