The Bridgeton Public Schools Gifted And Talented Program
WHAT IS THE GIFTED & TALENTED PROGRAM?
- The Gifted & Talented Program is school-day program that provides meaningful and relevant learning experiences to meet the needs of students with exceptional abilities.
- The program is designed to be responsive and meet a student's intellectual, creative, and social-emotional needs while helping them reach their full potential. The program is designed to encourage students curiosity and creativity and nurture their development as learners and leaders.
- Students in the program will work on individual and group projects on topics of interest to them. These projects will integrate the arts, language-arts literacy, social studies, science and math.
- G & T classes will meet during the school day. Students in grades 3 - 8 will meet for one class period, twice a week. Students in grades K - 2 will meet for one class period, once per week.
WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THE PROGRAM?
Students participating in the Gifted & Talented Program will:
- recognize their individual strengths and work towards maximizing their potential;
- cultivate their creative, social-emotional, critical thinking, and communication skills;
- exhibit the ability to act, think, and work independently and collaboratively;
- advance their leadership ability;
- use self, peer, and teacher evaluation and feedback positively as a means for growth;
- accept that methods and ideas may vary according to circumstances and perceptions;
- set goals and devise plans to finish projects and activities.
HOW ARE STUDENTS CHOSEN FOR THE PROGRAM?
- Students are selected for the program in multiple ways, including teacher recommendations, parent recommendations, self-recommendations (students in grades 3-8), standardized tests, creativity tests, and arts assessments.
WHO IS A GOOD FIT FOR THE PROGRAM?
A student may be a good fit for the Gifted & Talented Program if they:
- are curious and think creatively;
- enjoy school and do well in class;
- demonstrate a passion for the arts (dance, media arts, music, theater, visual arts);
- are good leaders;
- are highly motivated.
HOW DO I RECOMMEND MY CHILD?
- Below, please find the link to the Gifted & Talented Parent Recommendation Form.
- Read through the characteristics and select the answer that best fits your child.
- Students with IEPs, who are English Language Learners, or who exhibit emotional or behavioral issues may still qualify for the Gifted & Talented program.
- Please note, a recommended student does not automatically get accepted into Gifted & Talented program.
