Dr. Celeste Merriweather
Superintendent

A native of Camden, New Jersey, Dr. Celeste L. Merriweather has a diverse administrative background. She has recently been appointed Superintendent of the Bridgeton Public Schools. Along with her new appointment, she also serves as the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction since 2019. Before she was appointed as Acting Superintendent, she served in several roles in the Bridgeton Public Schools, such as the Director of Grants and Funded Programs, Principal of the Buckshutem Road School, and Early Childhood Curriculum Supervisor encompassing all Preschool three- and four-year-old district classrooms. She began her professional career spanning over 30 years in the Camden City Public Schools as a classroom teacher.

Dr. Merriweather earned her Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction and a Master of Education degree in Curriculum and Instruction with an Educational Leadership focus, both from the Pennsylvania State University. She also earned her Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from Morgan State University. Dr. Merriweather has not only progressed as an educational leader but has also been an adjunct professor at Wilmington University teaching doctoral level courses and an instructor at the Montclair State University in their Preschool to Grade Three Master’s level certification program. Outside of her district and college leadership positions, she has also held the office of President of the New Jersey Association of Federal Program Administrators, the National Secretary of the National Association of Federal Program Administrators along with the 10th President of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc, Rho Theta Omega chapter. She has presented at national, state, and local conferences on Early Childhood STEM strategies, Federal programs, and Family and Community Engagement Strategies.

Dr. Merriweather is a dedicated and committed educational leader who lives to embody her motto of “Serving and Supporting the Students and Staff of the Bridgeton Public Schools.”
