POSITION:

Music Teacher

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Valid New Jersey Instructional Certificate in required required area.
  2. Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status.

REPORTS TO:

Building principal and district supervisor of Visual and performing Arts or other appropriately certificated superior as designated by the Superintendent.

JOB GOAL:

To provide an approved educational program in accordance with the New Jersey State Learning Standards for the Performing Arts and establish a supportive and positive environment that fosters development of Vocal and/or Instrumental Music performance technique and expression, while developing in each pupil in appreciation of music in relation to societal, cultural and historical contexts.  

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Works to achieve student learning standards and district educational goals and objectives including the goals of the district Strategic Plan for the Arts, by promoting active learning and skills development in the classroom.
  2. Teaching pupils through an approved course of study using Board-adopted curricula, textbooks, and other appropriate teaching materials.
  3. Demonstrates a knowledge, understanding and application of subject matter.
  4. Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil. Submits the plans for review on a weekly basis.
  5. Sets student-centered learning objectives in lesson preparation and a weekly lesson plans and carries through presentation to effectively achieve these objectives.
  6. Assesses pupil academic progress and personal growth toward states objectives of instruction, including individual educational programs as needed.
  7. Maintains records of pupils' educational progress in class record books and/or Board approved forms and summarizes these marks for reporting purposes.
  8. Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and resolving learning problems.
  9. Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a classroom climate conducive to learning.
  10. Budgets class time effectively
  11. Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to inform them about the school program and to discuss pupil progress.
  12. Promotes the school program and provides performance opportunities by conducting student concerts for the school and community.
  13. Works collaboratively with non-arts teachers to integrate the arts across disciplines.
  14. Supervises pupils out-of-classroom activities as assigned.
  15. Maintains professional competence and continuous improvement through in­service education activities and other professional growth activities.
  16. Participates in school-level and Visual and Performing Arts Department planning, faculty meetings/committees and other school systems groups.
  17. Advocates for the Arts in the school and community and makes effective use of community resources to enhance the instructional program.
  18. Upholds and enforces school rules, administrative regulations and board policy.
  19. Maintains a high standard of ethical professional conduct when dealing with associates, parents, students and other members of the community.
  20. Performs other duties as assigned by the Building Principal and/or designee which shall fall within the scope of his/her employment.

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT:

10 Months. Salary to be determined by the Board of Education.

EVALUATION:

Performance will be evaluated in accordance with Board policies and procedures on the evaluation of professional staff.
