POSITION:
Dispatcher/Scheduler
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- One-year experience in transportation operations (preferred)
- A valid New Jersey School Bus Driver’s License of the appropriate class issued by the New Jersey Division of Motor Vehicles (passenger endorsement/school bus endorsement/air brake endorsement)
- Ability to schedule and organize work assignments to assure timely and effective completion.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working
relationships with co-workers and the general public.
- Bilingual (preferred)
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- General familiarity with fleet maintenance scheduling.
- Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status.
REPORTS TO:
Under the direction of the Transportation Coordinator and the Assistant Transportation Coordinator, assists in the proper operation, maintenance, scheduling of buses; does related work as required.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Dispatches all regular education and special/extra services buses.
- Posts Field trips and Sport trips; assigns drivers and substitute drivers to cover assignments.
- Prepares all trip sheets, maps and other vital driver information related to extra trips.
- Coordinates field trips, including receiving and posting trips, assigning drivers and buses to trips and maintaining trip board.
- Assigns substitute drivers to cover regular/EC/trip routes, when needed.
- Calls/emails and assigns substitutes bus drivers to routes and trips to fill in regular drivers as needed. Provides route information and instruction to substitute drivers.
- Composes and/or prepares various documents and reports (e.g. bus stop locations, field trip information, substitute driver route lists, workloads, absence and substitute records, early dismissal schedules, correspondence, bus logs, etc.)
- Assists when needed as a bus aide if substitutes are unavailable.
- Advises building officials of route changes, bus changes, late arrivals, departures, etc.
- Accepts bus trouble calls, coordinates replacement buses, drivers, etc. with Assistant Transportation Coordinator/Transportation Coordinator.
- Handles all quarterly reports. Keep up-to-date files on all buses that are active.
- Assists with coordination, building and maintaining routes for the students that attend Bridgeton Public Schools, and maintains constant contact with schools.
- Assists with coordination, building and maintaining routes for special education students that attend schools outside the district, and maintains contact with schools.
- Coordinates all after-school routes and assigns drivers accordingly. Assists the bus drivers, teachers, and parents with concerns in the after-school programs.
- Assists with attendance records of all bus drivers and bus aides.
- Performs all other duties as required by the Transportation Coordinator.
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT:
12 Months. Salary to be determined by the Board of
Education.
EVALUATION:
Performance will be evaluated in accordance with Board policies and procedures on the evaluation of professional staff.
