POSITION:

Non-Child Study Team Early Childhood Social Worker

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Valid NJ Educational Services Certificate and School Social Worker endorsement
  2. Comprehensive knowledge of effective teaching methods and developmentally appropriate practices;
  3. Experience working within an early childhood education setting and with families, community health and service agencies;
  4. Strong interpersonal and communication skills; and
  5. Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status.

REPORTS TO:

Early Childhood Principal

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Collaborate with all relevant preschool instructional staff, administrators, and support personnel to support the school district family services program; 
  2. Coordinate with other school district resource staff to reach out to families, determine individual family needs, provide advocacy services and help obtain appropriate community services; 
  3. Provide follow-up, including a review of child needs, when necessary; 
  4. Design and provide family workshops based on identified needs and topics revealed on parent surveys; 
  5. Act as a resource person, giving demonstrations, training, and/or sharing materials with staff and/or administration; 
  6. Act as a liaison between the school and community, and private agencies providing services to students and families; 
  7. Assist parents in learning about child development, nutrition, providing a safe environment and how to support the curriculum chosen by the school district; 
  8. Function as the building 504 Officer; 
  9. Work in conjunction with the Early Childhood Principal and the Preschool Community & Parent Involvement Specialist (CPIS) to implement, coordinate, schedule and conduct home visits to assure communication between the school and students' parents/guardians; 
  10. Maintain on-going contact with parents through conferences (and other means) to inform them of the school program and to discuss student progress; 
  11. Make effective use of community resources to enhance the instructional program; 
  12. Participate in faculty meetings and serve on school and district committees as requested by administration; 
  13. Meet with teachers, Preschool Intervention and Referral Specialists (PIRS), Educational Program Specialists (EPS) and other staff to familiarize themselves with the services and operations of the program so that they know when and how to request student services; 
  14. Read journals and articles, attend conferences, enroll in professional memberships, provide demonstration and workshops, and network with others in the field to keep abreast of trends and significant developments in early childhood character education; 
  15. Meet regularly with the Early Childhood Principal, and ongoing committees to articulate and address the needs of the students and the school district; 
  16. Give proper attention to the care and protection of school property and use materials economically; 
  17. Maintain cordial and workable professional and social relationships with other members of the professionals and non-professional staff; 
  18. Adhere to and promote the vision; mission, philosophy and objectives of the district, the administrative staff and the Board of Education, and interpret the policies and programs of the school in a positive and constructive manner; 
  19. Provide the Early Childhood Principal with monthly reports of their activities; and 
  20. Perform other duties, as required by the Early Childhood Principal or his/her designee. 

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT:

Ten (10) Months. Salary to be determined by the Board of Education.

EVALUATION:

Performance will be evaluated in accordance with state law and the provisions of the Board of Education’s Policy on Evaluation of Non-Certified staff.
