POSITION:
Carpenter
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school Diploma/GED
- Experience in carpentry and masonry
- Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status.
REPORTS TO:
Maintenance Supervisor and School Business Administrator
JOB GOAL:
To provide help and assistance to the painter, electrician, mason and any other jobs assigned by the supervisor
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Construct, erect, install and repair structures and fixtures of wood, plywood and wallboard using carpenter's hand tools and power tools, and conforming to local building codes.
- Study blueprints, sketches or building plans for information pertaining to type of material required, such as lumber or fiberboard, and dimensions of the structure or fixture to be fabricated.
- Select specific types of lumber or other material.
- Prepare layout, using rule, framing square and calipers.
- Shape materials to prescribed measurements, using saws, chisels, and planes.
- Mark cutting and assembly lines in material, using pencil, chalk and marking gauge.
- Assemble cut and shaped materials and fasten them together with nails, dowel pins or glue.
- Verify trueness or structure with plumb bob and carpenter's level.
- Erect framework for structure and lay sub flooring.
- Build stairs, lay out and install partitions and cabinet work.
- Cover sub floor with building paper to keep out moisture, and lay hardwood, parquet and wood strip-block floors, and asphalt tiles by nailing floors to subfloor or cementing them to mastic or asphalt base.
- Apply shock absorbing, sound deadening and decorative paneling to ceilings and walls.
- Fit and install prefabricated window frames, doors, doorframes, weather, stripping, interior and exterior trim, and finish hardware such as locks and kick plates.
- Construct forms and chutes for pouring concrete.
- Erect scaffolding and ladders for painting structures above ground level. May weld metal parts to steel structural members.
- Finish carpentry, such as installing interior and exterior trim, building stairs, laying hardwood floors.
- Perform general carpentry, painting and finishing.
- Repair all types of furniture arid refinish.
- Locate to repair leaks on roof.
- Repair roof, lay roll roofing, lay shingles, and flashings.
- Repair doors and windows
- Glaze windows with putty, polyglaze and paint.
- Repair and replace door and window locks.
- Repair and install ceramic tile.
- Mix, pour and finish concrete.
- Construct bulletin boards, picture and banner frames.
- Replace pencil sharpeners, towel, and toilet tissue dispensers.
- When specific trade job is completed, be able to assist and phase of maintenance work that may arise.
- Have ability to layout and paint signs, gym floors and other graphic painting
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT:
12 months. Salary to be determined by the Board of Education.
EVALUATION:
Performance will be evaluated in accordance with Board polices and producers on the evaluation of professional staff.
