Job Description
POSITION:
Electrician
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma/GED
- Minimum of three years industrial electrical maintenance exp.
- Electrically trained, with a minimum Journeyman's Electrician Certification.
- Experience in carpentry and masonry, preferred
- Ability to lift 70lbs, climb ladders, and not afraid of heights
- Strong electrical trouble-shooting capability
- Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status.
REPORTS TO:
Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds and Assistant Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds
JOB GOAL:
To provide electrical assistance and assist with the masonry, painters, carpenter, and other maintenance jobs assigned by the supervisor.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plan layouts, installs, and repairs wiring, electrical fixtures, apparatus, and control equipment.
- Plans new or modified installations to minimize waste of materials, provide access for future maintenance, and avoid unsightly, hazardous, and unreliable writing, consistent with specifications and local electric codes.
- Prepares sketches showing location of wiring and equipment, or follows diagrams or blueprints, insuring that concealed wiring is installed before completion of future walls, ceiling, and flooring.
- Measures, cuts, bends, threads, assembles, and installs electrical conduit, using such tools as hacksaw, pipe threader, and conduit bender.
- Pulls wiring through conduit, assisted by helper.
- Splices wires by stripping insulation from terminal leads with knife or pliers, twisting or soldering wires together, and applying tape or terminal caps.
- Connects wiring to lighting fixture and power equipment, using hand tools.
- Installs control and distribution apparatus, such as switches, relays, and circuit breaker panels, fastening in place with screws or bolts, using hand tools and power tools.
- Connects power cables to equipment, such as electric range or motor, and installs grounding leads.
- Test continuity of circuit to insure electrical compatibility and safety of components, using testing instruments, such as ohmmeter, battery and buzzer, and oscilloscope.
- Observing functioning of installed equipment or system to detect hazards and need for adjustments, relocation or replacement.
- May repair faulty equipment or systems.
- Test and make repair to Univents, clocks, exhaust fans, and small motors. If the item cannot be repaired, take it to electric motor repair shop.
- When specific trade job is caught up, may be asked to assist in any phase of maintenance repair work, or any priority job that may arise.
- Performs other such duties as required by the Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds and Assistant Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds.
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT:
12 Months. Salary to be determined by the Board of Education.
EVALUATION:
Performance will be evaluated in accordance with Board policies and procedures on the evaluation of professional staff.
